Window Keeper Waterproofing

When I am in a heavy rain or prolonged periods the window keepers (pictured) would soak up water on the exterior of the camper and leak to the inside dripping and getting the mattress, sheets, and blankets wet. To mitigate this I took a tube of Seam Grip + SIL Silicone Sealant from gear aid and coated both the exterior and interior parts of the loops. I used a significant amount and than some and it has worked amazing. I’m not sure if this is an everyone issue or a me issue.

Dain, did you dilute the seam grip with mineral spirits or use it as is? Saw on another camping released forum it’s pretty thick stuff and diluting it makes it eaiser to “paint” on. Just curious

@Jay Horne It is easier to “paint” on diluting it and I have always done that when applying it to ground tents. When I did it on my window keepers I used a rubber glove and straight out of the tube. I discovered they leaked in the worst rain storm I’ve ever camped in and was frustrated enough by it I wanted to make sure it never happened again.

@Dain Cummings Thanks for the input. I’ll follow suit and go undiluted. Mine were wicking in water with a light to moderate shower that passed through within an hour. Annoying

@Jay Horne I left the tent open and went hunting while it rained all day. When we got back probably a quarter of the mattress was wet. I’m sure diluted would’ve done the trick just as well.
